Two Rebels Killed In Shootout

Digital Desk, April 6: Two surrendered members of a Bodo rebel group were killed by Assam Police on Tuesday in Chirang district of Assam. The rebels are identified as the members of National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB). Assam Police had launched an operation under Runikhata Police Station on Monday night after receiving information about the rebels hiding near Khungring area. Both of them were suspected to have been involved in dacoity in three villages along the Indo-Bhutan border on March 29.

The suspected dacoits were hiding inside a house and fired to the police on spotting them. During the fire additional superintendent of police (headquarters) Prakash Medhi and his bodyguard sustained bullet injuries. Medhi was badly injured on his right hand with a bullet and immediately shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

In retaliatory firing, two of them including Mahanta Narzary, a prime accused in a dacoity case were also killed. Police seized two pistols from the incident spot.
