The rise of Artificial Intelligence and its misuse in various ways has fed a host of concerns, alerting the public of the malicious side of AI. Among other harms, disrupt in the democratic process, fraud in different sectors, deepfake images as well as videos circulating on the internet,  loss of jobs, etc, has emerged as a great threat.

The United States, Britain and more than a dozen other countries unveiled on Sunday what is described by a senior U.S. official as the first detailed international agreement on how to keep artificial intelligence safe from hackers and rogue actors. They have come to the agreement that companies designing and using AI need to develop and use it in a way that does not cause any harm to the public, to keep it safe from being misused and the AI systems needs to be ‘secure by design’.

In addition to the United States and Britain, the 18 other countries that signed the new guidelines include Germany, Italy, Australia, Singapore, Israel, Nigeria, Poland, Chile, Estonia and the Czech Republic.

Recently, many deepfake cases arose in India as well. One such case is the deepfake video of popular actress Rashmika Mandanna that circulated on social media platforms. This shows how the rising use of AI not only has beneficial advantages but also a scary side with the potential of causing great havoc to humanity.
