Police Commemoration Day honoured ; India pays homage to the bravehearts

Saswati Sarma , New Delhi , October 21 : India on Thursday morning has poured tribute to the police personnel in different corners of the country on Police Commemoration Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi , Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have also saluted the selfless sacrifices of the martyrs in the line of duty. The Home Minister lauded the Indian Police Force by saying that it is “a quintessential example of the culmination of courage , restraint and diligence”.

In the previous year , 377 personnel of state Police Forces along with those of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) lost their lives in the line of duty while engaging with Pakistan supported militants in Jammu and Kashmir , armed insurgents and Naxal groups in the hinterland as well as armed criminals and maintaining public order. At around 2,458 Police and CAPF personnel fell prey to COVID-19 , in the coronavirus management duty.

35,780 Policemen have been martyred till August 31, 2021 since Independence. Tributes are paid to these bravehearts in every Police unit and every district in the country on October 21. The occasion is honoured at the site of National Police Memorial in Delhi at the national level.
