On Sunday, December 17, PM Modi launched the Surat Diamond Bourse in Surat. The largest and most contemporary center for global diamond and jewelry trade is the Surat Diamond Bourse. The trade of jewelry and polished and rough diamonds will be conducted out of this global center.

The Bourse will include a cutting-edge “customs clearance house” for import-export; a jewelry mall for retail jewelry sales; and a facility for safe vaults and international banking.

The Guinness World Records recognized the building, which is a part of Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) city as the largest office building in the world in August of this year. More than 65,000 diamond professionals, including cutters, polishers and trades are housed in the city’s Surat Diamond Bourse, a comprehensive hub. The 15 story complex was built to house the diamond industry on more than 35 acres of land. It has nine connected rectangular structures that branch out from the center spine, with more than 71 lakh square feet or floor area; it is thought to have surpassed the pentagon, which held the record for the largest office building in the world for eight decades. The Rs 3,200 cr ($388 million) development also houses 131 elevators, as well as dining, retail, wellness and conference facilities for workers.
