Nukad Natak on current issues is not blasphemous: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Digital Desk, July 11: An activist from Nagaon, Assam was arrested for reportedly hurting religious sentiments. The activist was dressed up as Lord Shiva during a street play. Notably, the activist, dressed up as Lord Shiva, was seen arguing with a woman, dressed up as Goddess Parvati. Significantly, the activist namely Biren Bora was arrested on Saturday under bailable sections on the complaints by VHP (Vishva Hindu Parishad) and Bajrang Dal.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on microblogging site Twitter, ”I agree with you @NavroopSingh that Nukad Natak on current issues is not blasphemous. Dressing up is not a crime unless offensive material is said. Appropriate order has been issued to @nagaonpolice.” Concurrently, Biren Bora was released on Sunday morning.

It is mentioned that the activist stated that the government in power was only working for the interests of the capitalists. The government was not concerned about the issues of common people. And the complaints were registered against both of them, Biren Bora and Karishma.
