If Prime Minister Narendra Modi is elected for the third term, India’s democracy may not last, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said at Bhubaneswar’s public meeting on 29 January. He added, “If some leaders and people become cowards, will our Constitution and democracy survive? If you vote for Modi again, there will be no election in the country. Elections will be held like the elections of Russian President Vladimir Putin.”

Kharge also mentioned, “The BJP party will run the government on basis of accumulated authority and keep returning to power.” Furthermore he said, “They will get 200 seats, 300 and 400. It will even increase to 600 number of seats, therefore people must take action to save the nation’s democracy.”

According to him, the country’s general election in 2024 will be the last opportunity for citizens to cast their votes. Kharge labelled  the BJP and its ideological guru, the RSS, as “poison” and warned the Congress party workers to stay away from them.
