Theme :-“Sustainable Development for a clean and healthy Planet.”
Today, the 2nd December, is National pollution control Day. Remembering the Bhopal Gas Tragedy which happened on the 2nd and 3rd December, 1984. In this date, we observe National Pollution Control Day every year for paying tribute to those who lost their precious lives in deathly incident. In that tragic incident more than 3700 people died and over 5 lakh people were affected by the toxic gas, Methyl Isocyanate that got leak from Union Carbide India Limited’s Pesticide facility in Madhya Pradesh. This tragedy is regarded as one of the worst industrial environmental catastrophes in the history in India.
The theme for the National Pollution Control Day, 2023 is “Sustainable Development for a clean and healthy Planet.” On this day, we try to understand the importance of the air, water and soil. This observation promotes the use of renewable resources, and recycling of goods to reduce the emission of harmful pollutants and also judicious use of natural resources, in heading towards sustainable development. In India, 2.18 million people died due to the air pollution every year, and China is next to India.
According to the researchers of medical journal the BMJ found that air pollution from using fossil fuel in industries, power generation and transportation accounts for additional 5.1 million deaths in a year, worldwide. So, we must keep our environment clean in best ways for the well-being of the mankind and make the earth a healthy planet to live in.
