Today, India observes Vijay Diwas, a day to honour the bravery and sacrifice of the country’s armed forces. This significant day is a reminder of the historic victory in the Indo-pak war of 1971 when the Pakistan armed forces surrendered on December 16,1971. This ended the 13 day conflict and established Bangladesh as an independent nation.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh acknowledge the sacrifice and courage of the armed forces. He stated that their patriotism and bravery has kept India secure. He tweeted, ‘’India will never forget their sacrifice and service’’. The Indian Air Force highlighted its key role in the war, calling it a decisive moment in India’s military history. They noted that the conflict ended with the unconditional surrender of Lt. General AAK Naizi. This victory was achieved through a well coordinated military strategy. The IAF played a crucial role in the swift conclusion of the war, launching over 2400 missions in the western sector and more than 2000 in the Eastern theatre. These air operations helped India dominate the sky. The war is often referred to as ‘’lightning war’’ due to its short duration. Vijay Diwas is a day of pride and remembrance for the country. Citizens across India pay tribute to the armed forces. It stands as a reminder of India’s military prowers and the dedication of those who defended its sovereignty.
