Farmer dies by suicide in Punjab

Digital Desk, April 26: Punjab has witnessed 14 farmer suicides including 11 farmer suicides from Malwa region in April. A 40-year-old farmer has recently died by suicide in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district. Deputy Superintendent of Police Narinder Singh said that a suicide note was recovered from farmer Manjit Singh in which he narrated that he was taking the extreme step on account of low field of wheat this season. He had taken 18 acres on contract basis.

Notably, wheat growers have witnessed a drop in field due to the early onset of heatwave. Convergently, former Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu has targeted Aam Aadmi Party since Arvind Kejriwal promised that no farmers or farm labourers in Punjab will die by suicide due to crop failure after April 1, 2022.
