Draupadi Murmu became the first tribal woman to be elected as the President of India

Digital Desk, July 22: NDA’s Presidential nominee Draupadi Murmu became the first tribal woman to be elected as the President of India on July 21. While Opposition joint candidate Yashwant Sinha bagged the votes of 1,877 electors including 208 MPs, Draupadi Murmu bagged the votes of 2,824 electors including 540 MPs. The 64-year-old, Draupadi Murmu became the first President from one of India’s tribal communities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on microblogging site Twitter, ”A daughter of India hailing from a tribal community born in a remote part of eastern India has been elected as our President.” It may be noted that Draupadi Murmu was appointed as the first female Governor of Jharkhand in 2015. The term of Ram Nath Kovind ends on July 25. Draupadi Murmu will take oath on July 25 by Mr. NV Ramana, the Chief Justice of India.
