Dr. Shyamal Prasad Saikia has been appointed as the Chairman of the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) by the Governor of Assam’s orders. In accordance with the rules of Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights of 2015, Section 18 of the Commission for Protection Child Rights (CPCR) Act of 2005, and the Selection Committee’s recommendation, this appointment has been made. The period of appointment is for three years, or until he turns sixty-five, whichever comes first. In accordance with Rule 3 of the 2015 Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, he will assume office. The Chairman’s salary and benefits, among other things, will be decide under the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, 2015.
The function of this commission is to reviewing current laws and safeguards for child rights protection and suggesting measures for their effective implementation, inquire into violation of child rights, look into matters relating to children in need of special care and protection and inspect or cause to be inspected any other place of residence or institution meant for children, under the control of the Central Government or any State Government.
