It has been reported that Goalpara Congress MLA was arrested on 7, november for making derogatory remarks against hindu priests and saints and had been remanded to one day police custody on wednesday . Notably , Aftab uddin mollah was arrested following an FIR lodged with the Deputy commissioner of police , east zone by a resident from Guwahati’s Bhetapara locality . As per the report the congress legislator was produced before the chief judicial magistrate court in Guwahati. The reason he was arrested for abusive comments in his speech about Priest, Namgharias , Saint which has been strongly reacted by the people of Assam during a public meeting held in Goalpara district.
An allegedly delivering a “Hate Speech” targeting the Hindu (priest of Vaishnavite sect). Mollah was picked up by the police for questioning from the MLA hostel quarters in Dispur on Tuesday night . The MLA was produced in a local court and has been booked on charges on deliberate and malicious acts that were intended to outrage religious feelings and promote enmity between religious groups. The arrest followed an apology from the congress MLA and a show cause notice served by the state congress president. The chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that while apologies are accepted , the law will still be enforced.
