Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday took part in the Bhumi Pujan ceremony of the Palashbari Sualkuchi bridge over the Brahmaputra River. Assam CM said ‘’The bridge spaning a total length of 3.6 kilometer four-lane road connecting Palashbari and 2 kilometer route to Sualkuchi, alongside elevated roads to protect the wetlands north of Sualkuchi. Sarma said that the bridge, spanning a total length of 3.6 kilometres, is expected to be completed by june 2028.
Sarma said that this bridge would catalyse a transformative shift in connectivity between the northern and southern banks of Brahmaputra, easing access to prominent locations such as Gauhati University, Tura in Meghlaya, and Goalpara. He reiterated that government Initiatives, previously impeded by logistical challenges in areas like Hajo, Ramdia, and Sualkuchi could now be implemented. The Chief Minister also noted the imminent construction of the Indian Institute of Management in Palashbari which could improve the communication for students in North Assam once the bridge is completed. The event saw participation from notable figures, including Union Minister Pabitra Margherita, Environment and forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, MP Bhubaneswar Kalita, MLAs Diganta Kalita, Hemanga Thakuria, and Nandita Das. Senior officials, including Kamrup District Cpmmissioner Deba Kumar Mishra and representatives from the public works Department, also attented.
Sarma concluded by stating that the Palashbari-Sualkuchi bridge symbolizes Assam’s ambitious vision for balanced regional growth. By overcoming logistical challenges and prioritizing community driven initiatives, the state is setting an example of sustainable progress and inclusive development.
