New Delhi, July 24 : President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind today plants a sapling from the Holy Bodhi Tree at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the occasion of Ashadha Purnima – Dhamma Chakra Diwas.
Union culture minister G Kishan Reddy , ministers of state for culture Arjun Ram Meghwal and Meenakshi Lekh has been present at the event. Guru Purnima falls on the Full Moon day on July 24 this year corresponding with the lunar eclipse marked by Hindus , Jains , and Buddhists to honour one’s gurus (teachers) for guiding them towards the path of Enlightenment.
Dharma Chakra Day honours Buddha’s first sermon to his first five ascetic disciples at the Deer Park in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh. This day is observed by the Buddhists across the globe commemorating the day of Dharma Chakra Parvattana or “Turning of the Wheel of Dharma”.
