Digital Desk, July 11: The Supreme Court sentenced Indian business man Vijay Mallya to 4 months jail. SC also imposed a fine of Rupees 2,000 on him for a contempt of court case. Significantly, Mallya was convicted of contempt in the year 2017 over transforming Rupees 40 million to his children in violation of court orders. Meanwhile, Vijay Mallya has been in the United kingdom since March 2016.
The judges of SC said, ”To uphold the majesty of justice, we must impose adequate punishment.” On the other hand, the court order further added, ”If this is not deposited, the recovery officer can take appropriate actions for recovery of the said amount and the government of India and all agencies should assist in that process.” Notably, a bench of Justices including UU Lalit, Ravindra Bhat and PS Narasimha have passed the order.
