Prathana Mahanta, February 25: Parag Kumar Das Memorial Trust organized a memorial deliverance on February 24 at Sudmerson Hall, Cotton University. The talking point of deliverence was Freedom- An Unending Quest. Dr. Tilottama Mishra, English Literature professor, Dr. Apurba Kumar Baruah, Mayur Bora, honoary president and editor of Parag Kumar Das Memorial Trust, many eminent personalities and students were also present on the solemn occasion.
Parag Kumar Das was a journalist and former editor of the largest daily newspaper Asomiya Pratidin. He was a human right activist and one of the founders of human rights movement in Assam. He was born on 24 February 1961, in Shillong, the capital of then undivided Assam. Buman was his affectionate name.
He commenced his journalism life in Prantik, an Assamese language magazine and The Sentinel, an English daily published from Guwahati. His books include Rastradrohir Dinlipi, Swadhin Axomor Arthaniti, Early Writings of Parag Kumar Das and so on. He died at young age of 35. He was the quintessence of journalism. He used his pen to raise people’s responsiveness to enslavement of fragile sections of all mankind.
