Indian Railways offers jobs to 2,800 family members of workers who died of COVID-19

Saswati Sarma, New Delhi, October 7 : The Ministry of Railways said on Wednesday that the Indian Railways has granted jobs to more than 2,800 individuals, who are closest relatives of employess dying of coronavirus while working during the pandemic on compassionate and pitying grounds. Minor children of the deceased workers’ will get a job as soon as they turn 18.

The national transporter suffers the loss of around 3,256 railway officials of several ranks and departments laboring at workshops, tracks , stations and among various other places to coronavirus since March 2020. 87 percent  of kin of such workers got railway jobs within four months where mostly it was the son or wife who occupied the job. While in other cases, the wives appealead that their employment be prolonged till they complete their higher education so that they become eligible for higher profiles in which most of the posts are in the D category.

Railways on Wednesday also declared the Performance Linked Bonus equivalent to 78 days’ pay to its staffs in accordance with a decision of the Union Cabinet presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to sources, the Railways is now aiming to complete the compassionate and concerned employment drive by this month.
