Property owners in Guwahati have been asked by the GMC to make their outstanding payments before the deadline in order to avoid penalties and attachment of their property, along with delinking of their holding number from the Assam power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL). The GMC has started an initiative of door-to-door collection of property taxes this year, under which 195 women from local self help groups have been appointed as ‘poura Sakhis’, who will personally visit people’s houses to collect property taxes from their doorsteps with POS machines, in order to make the process of property tax payment hassle-free and easier and to aradicate any confusion faced by taxpayers. The same was announced by the GMC on their official X handle, where they said, ‘’Payment of property Tax by March 31, 2024 is mandatory to avoid attachment of your property and delinking of holding number from APDCL. Citizens of Guwahati are requested to pay their property tax on time as Pouro Xokhis will be on a door-to-door collection drive’’.
The property tax payments can also be made online by visiting the gmcpropertytax.com website, where citizens can also find out about their ward municipality.
