Bharat Ratna for EX Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur

Guwahati, 24 January: Freedom fighter, former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur got the highest Civilian Award, Bharat Ratna one day ahead of his Birthday anniversary. Thakur was born in 1924, Bihar and died on 17th February, 1988. He belonged to the deprived and neglected Dalits community. He is also known as Jan Nayak mean “People Hero”. He joined the Quit India Movement and he spent 26 months in prison for participating in the Indian Independence Movement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and many political leaders have welcomed the government’s decision to give Bharat Ratana to the former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur 

 PM Modi posted on X, “I have much to thank him for”….. To mark his birth centenary, PM wrote, “I have much to thank Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Ji, unfortunately, we lost Karpoori Ji at a relatively young age of 64. We lost him when we needed him the most. Yet, he lives on in the hearts and minds of crores of people due to his work. He was a true Jan Nayak!”                                Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said that the government’s decision has made him happy because he always demanded Bharat Ratna for Karpoori Thakur.
