Argentina Skipper Lionel Messi confirms his retirement after FIFA World Cup 2022

Argentina Football Team Captain Lionel Messi has reportedly confirmed that he will retire after the 2022 FIFA World Cup final which will be played on December 18. The 35-year-old Messi says that the upcoming FIFA final will be his last game in international standard.

Lionel Messi says “I feel very happy to be able to achieve this, to finish my World Cup journey by playing my last game in a final. It’s many years for the next one and I don’t think I’ll be able to do it and to finish like this, it’s the best.” 

The Argentina Skipper who is attempting to bring the country its first world cup title since 1986, led Argentina to 3-0 win over Croatia in the semi-final on Tuesday to reach 2022 FIFA World Cup Final.

Notably, Messi is participating in his fifth World Cup, surpassing Javier Mascherano and Diego Maradona. Both of them participated in four World Cups.
