Government earns revenue over 22 crore rupees during the festive month in Guwahati

Guwahati, 25 November : The excise department claimed that the government generated over 22 crores of income from spirits sales in the last month alone during the Durga Puja in Guwahati.
This shows the surge in consumption of alcohol over the city.
September 13, in the assembly, Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya said more than 50litres of liquor is sold daily on an average in Assam. He also mentioned that every day the state collects about Rs. 10 crore in excise income.
While on the other hand, on 21 November, 80litres of illicit liquor has been seized and destroyed in the city notably in the areas of Friday bazaar, Bhootnath, Athgaon and Bamunimaidam bazaar.
The Excise teams to take strict steps against the people who drink and drive in the public places, the Police officials will fine of Rs. 5,000 if someone consumes alcohol.
